Na & Pa
"Na" and "pa" are very useful words that each have several meanings. These meanings fall into two categories.
Na - end of a time period
Pa - continuation of a time period
Na
Now: "Maglakat na 'ta." — "Let's go now." (lakat = leave/walk)
Already: "Nakakaon na kamo?" — "Have you eaten yet?" (kaon = eat)
Anymore: "He can't be helped anymore." — "Indî na siya mabuligan." (bulig = help)
Finally: "He finally arrived." — "Nakaabot na siya." (abot = arrive)
Pa
Still: "Are you still walking?" — "Nagalakat pa kamo?"
More: "isa pa" — "one more"
"Are there any more?" — "May arâ pa?"Yet: "Walâ pa ang katapusan." — "It's not the end yet." (katapusan = end)
"Never before." — "Walâ pa gid."Else: "What else?" — "Ano pa?"
These words (now, anymore, still, etc.) aren't always stated in English, but would still be marked with "na" or "pa" in Hiligaynon. For example, if you've been waiting for a friend for a while, you could say in English: "He arrived." Although the word "finally," isn't directly stated, it's implied and using "na" would make sense.
